Need some Soundtrack Pro help
Along with my video production work responsibilities, I was recently given some radio production responsibilities as well. Since we use Final Cut Studio as our video editing software, I want to simplify my life, and use Soundtrack Pro as my audio production software for the radio programs.
The radio programs are very simple. Short music open…short interview…short music close. We’re NOT talking about recording and mixing 16 tracks of audio here.
First question: Will Soundtrack Pro work for this sort of audio production? From reading the manual, it looks like it would, but I would appreciate some input from someone who has actually worked with the program.
Second question: What kind of interface do you recommend? I need to get my Mackie 1202 VLZ Pro mixer to talk to my Mac. Or I can get some sort of device that has the inputs to replace the Mackie, and use that device to talk to the Mac. Right now, I am open to USB, Firewire, and PCI interfaces. Any suggestions?

Our FCP system shipped with a bundle that included a light version of Bias Peak. Check your utility folders to see if you have it. This is a very nice stand-alone audio editor, you can compose the shows in there, and import the music you build from Soundtrack.

We have found STP to be very processor intensive and have had frequent crashes with it doing simple things like digitizing 45 minutes of dialogue. Till there is an update we have switched to Cubase LT which came free with our FW A/D Firebox and it has worked flawlessly. All the reviews seem to be very positive about STP so the problem probably lies with our machine which may not be up to spec although an apple moderator did mention on their forum that they were aware of the resource issue – see:
