Is there any way of viewing the timecode track of a QT file in QT player?

Basically need to get a bunch of interviews to a transcriber, and the idea of ever going anywhere near a VHS tape again appalls me.

I know I can add a BITC in FCP, but the info is already in the files.

Running the files to a PC – is there an imovie equivilant I can import them into?

I think a window burn from FCP is the way to go… it’s RT so would render fast… just add the TC filter, then export a self contained QT movie, don’t bother to render the TC window burn.

Practically speaking, Jerry’s idea for creating a window burn is the best. If you want to geek out, you can see the TC info if you open a separate “get info” window when the clip is running. The info is there, it’s just not set up for display. Not very practical, but theoretically it would work.

As we move towards a very “networked” environment where many “non editors” are looking at raw footage, the need for a visible TC display in the standard QT player becomes crucial. I hope that the folks in Cupertino are listening.

Thanks chaps. There aren’t too many clips, so I’m just dropping the TC filter onto the clips (and trying to see if I can batch export). Probably the best approach, as asking a producer to work out anything beyond a big timecode burnt into the screen is probably asking too much.

Mark – when I open the get info (by clicking the window and command-i, I just get the counter (ie from zero). Is there any way of getting this to display the timecode?
