  • HELP!!! TRYING TO MAKE DEADLINE… VIDEO LOCKING UP!

Posted by Dave Roberts on June 7, 2005 at 11:40 pm

Today I upgraded to FCP 4.5. I was orginally using FCP 3 and it worked just fine. Now I have a story deadline to meet and the program isn’t working. When I try to play video in the viewer and timeline, the video locks up after 3 seconds while the audio plays on. When I pause the video, it jumps to the proper frame.

Why won’t the video play smooth? Am I up a s**t creek?

    Please help… anybody.

Is your canvas in fit to window?

Have you tried trashing your prefs or running FCP rescue?

    have you fixed permissions?

Or export as self-contained movie and re-import into a new project.

    Good luck David !

    David,

I had same problem. For me, the freezing occurs only when I previewed through Firewire. Assuming you’re working with NTSC DV and viewing through an NTSC monitor, try these things:

-Restart FCP with the camera already on
-Once up, make sure your Timeline window is active, and toggle the Firewire output by pressing Cmd-F12 a few times
    -Resize your Canvas to 50%
-Also, close any unused sequence tabs in the timeline.

These procedures usually work for me. Let me know how it works for you.

    Andrew
