trouble with characters
Posted by Andre P. on June 7, 2005 at 1:12 pmhi folks, first time posting here
i’m having troubles with final cut hd characters. I had to create GC’s using simple text. So far so good. But when I add blur, motion and tracking changes to it, the gc’s movement starts to “shake”. What should I do?
Thanks!

I’ll take a stab at this.
Does it shake after the effect is rendered and playing on an external video monitor?
If the effect simply shakes when the timeline is STOPPED, that’s normal.
It is because of the difference in position between the two FIELDS that make up the full FRAME of video. When stopped, these two fields will appear to oscillate (shake.)If this is not your problem, please post again.

June 7, 2005 at 2:32 pmHi Matte, thank you for posting!
So, the problem is: it shakes when it’s playing at a external video monitor. After all the rendering… I just don’t know what to do!
Thanks

You need to “isolate” the problem:
Try removing a SINGLE effect (I mean only ONE-effect-at-a-time) and re-render (after EACH effect is removed) and view the results of removing that one effect.
Keep going until the shaking is eliminated.
Then post back with WHICH effect caused the problem and we might get a better handle on this.

June 7, 2005 at 3:33 pmHi Matte,
so, I isolated every effect, and discovered that the problem is at the TRACKING effect. If I let the blur and even move the characters, nothing bad happens. The trouble is: it NEEDS to have blur and tracking together… can you picture what could be wrong with the tracking? -

What “tracking” filter are you adding (where is it located in the FCP Filters)?
What effect does the “tracking” provide? -

Actually, this is not a filter. I mean that “tracking” at the controls tab in the characters window, which create distance between the words. -

I do this while still in the “composing and typing” mode in the “Title 3D” title tool.
First, I type my text,
Then, I highlight all of the characters in the text and (while holding down the “option” key) I hit the Right-Arrow (and Left-Arrow) key(s) any number of times.
This creates any amount of “spreading” (tracking) of the letters and words before I even close the compose window. This will work on any number of letters and spaces (you can just highlight a pair of letters or spaces, or as much of the text as you choose), so you can have varying amounts depending on your likes and needs within the text.
I never have any “shaking” if I do this.

June 7, 2005 at 7:13 pmdon’t use the legacy title generators. use title 3D people! the tracking with title 3D is mucho smoother.

I’m using Final Cut only for two months… and I only know how to make titles using the simple text mode… where in Final Cut HD do I click for opening the 3d text mode??
Thanks!
