  • Preview disabled in batch capture window

Posted by Ron Dawson on May 31, 2005 at 6:51 pm

For some unknown reason, my preview is disabled in the batch capture window. No video is being detected. However, the start and stop controls in the batch capture window are still working (i.e. th camera starts and stops accordingly when the corresponding buttons are hit in the BC window). This has happened before, and I’d re-launch FCP or restart the computer to get it to work again. I’ve done that and it’s still not working. Any ideas?

    I’m running FCP 4.5 on Mac OS 10.3.5. 2.5 GHz G5.

    Thanks,
    Ron

Trash your prefs to restore the window. Avoid daisy chaining FW drives from now on if that’s what you’re doing.

Also, make sure you set up your video monitor and speakers out of the DV Deck. The reason? If you’re hard wired as well, you can make sure all is working to spec. I never use the L/C window for video, and prefer my video monitor instead, so that is more important that it is getting signal from the deck.

    Hi Gunner,

I didn’t have any FW drives daisy chained. I’ll keep in mind the idea of trashing prefs. It is now working but I have no idea why. However, I just added a FW drive so now they ARE daisy chained. My G5 only has one FW400 slot on the back (the front i’m using for the deck).

    Thanks,
    Ron

If you insist on FireWire drives, you should get a separate PCI card to put your FireWire drives and deck on separate buses. Remember that Apple doesn’t recommend them, and I suspect that is what is preventing the preview from happening in Log and Capture.

Also make sure to hook up that video monitor, which I suspect you have not yet..

    Hi Gunner,

I don’t have a pro video monitor, but I do have a regular TV connected. Also, when I had the preview disabled problem on this Mac, I only had one FW drive hooked up.
