  • Tips for using a mini Disc recorder and FCP?

Posted by N1 Gooner on May 22, 2005 at 11:59 am

I aim to do an interview with a video camera and record the sound with a mini disc player (which I’ve never used before). Then I will sync the Audio from the mini disc with the video. Is there anything I should be aware of? Sample rates, recording levels (do they exist on a mini disc?), how do I bring in the audio using FCP? I dont even have a clapper board so what is the best way of making sure i can sync the audio and picture up easily? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • A better idea might be to record the audio directly to the video camcorder and don’t bother with all the associated issues of dual-system audio.

Make your own clapper. Get in front of the lens and slap anything together that will easily be recognizable on the audio. Two sticks work good. Also the sound will be recorded on your cam as well. You might do a search for mini-disc recording. I remember reading an article in dv mag (I believe) that talked about using this combo. It was around the time everyone was complaining about the buzz on the pd150.
