I’m having a problem capturing PAL in FCP 5. THis is a PAL mini DV and I’m using Pal firewire.
I get preview disabled in the log and capture screen. No aud or vid.
All my settings are set to PAL.
It trying tricking it, trash the prefs , re boot and I can now see aud and vid in log and capture but
it is having problems seeing timecode and aborts. No such luck.
    It works ok with NTSC.
This is using FCP 5 and Tiger 10.4.1

I’m capturing PAL now on a FCP 4.5 system under Tiger and it’s working.

Is anyone else having this problem???

    Paul,

Did you upgrade from 4.5 or is this a fresh install?
What is the model of the camera or deck you are capturing from? Also, have you tried capturing from other PAL DV tapes?

    Please keep us posted,
    Erin.

I did up an upgrade from 4.5.
I’m using the DSR 25 DV deck which plays and records PAL.
I tried playing another PAL tape and it doesn’t play either.
I see it fine on my monitor just not Log and Capture.
I tried a NTSC tape and everything works fine.
I am getting timecode showing up in log and capture.
Even in FCP 4.5 I always got a little hung up switching from NTSC to PAL.
But a re-boot would clear things.
    This time it’s just stuck.

OK I figured out the solution.
There is a little NTSC/PAL switch on the back of the Sony DSR 11 and 25 decks.
When I set the deck to PAL it works fine now in FCP.

But an interesting point is that it plays out to a monitor just fine
and is controllable through firewire when it the deck is set to NTSC
    and playing a PAL tape.

What is the true function of the NTSC/PAL switch?

Thanks to all those COW people for their help.
That’s why I love posting to the COW.
