This is first time we’ve had a 3 camera shoot in HD, time of day timecode, and they stopped tape on every take = So with the breaks in code there are a TON of clips to be lined up in sequences. Obviously FCP 5 has group clipping like Avid, anyone have any tips on speeding up the process of syncing all your clips?

thanks. just trying to save myself a couple hours of toil.

Well, just as a tip to anyone else who is just starting to shoot and edit multicam jobs, it helps a LOT to “slate” every take with a single hand clap or similar.

Can’t beat using an actual slate to ID every take, but at the very least having a definite starting point saves a heck of a lot of time in post.

Something I did on multicam shoots for avid was to create a sequence that represented the whole shoot day (time of day code for the master timecode) And cut each camera into its own video layer, matching its source code to the timeline code. This way, I could see how everything lined up and easily start to make my group clips.

I’m not sure how FCP5 will create group clips, but it sure would help if there was a function do automatically sync up a day’s shoot.
