Is an ibook compatible with FCP?
Posted by N1 Gooner on May 11, 2005 at 3:57 pmMy wife has an ibook 1.2 ghz PowerPC G4, 512 MB, 10.3.9 OS. Is this compatible with FCP? If not is there anything I can add to the ibook (ie. more RAM) to make it work?

May 11, 2005 at 4:34 pmThere’s a very obscure web site called apple.com that has loads of information about what’s compatible with FCP (& other Apple products. Here’s what they say:
“Hardware
A Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G4 or G5 processor and AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) graphics card
384 megabytes (MB) of random-access memory (RAM)
350 megahertz (MHz) or faster processor
For RT Extreme, a single 500 MHz or faster PowerPC G4 (550 MHz for PowerBook G4) or any dual PowerPC G4
To use DVCPRO HD, you must have a Power Macintosh computer with a 1 GHz or faster processor and 1 gigabyte (GB) of RAMSoftware
Mac OS X v10.3.2 or later
QuickTime 6.5 or later”
Be aware that these are only the minimum specs. And they don’t cover any of the recommended accessories (video monitor, mixer, DVD burner, etc) that you’ll likely need to use as well.Arnie

May 11, 2005 at 5:25 pmI’m running FCP 4.5HD on my ibook G4 1.3Mhz with 512 MB RAM with no prob, I can capture via firewire, preview my projects on my TV. I can also run Shake and After Effects (not at the same time obviously) but it runs ok and I’m used to wotk with really powerful PCs at the office (Dual Xeons) and I don’t see that huge difference.
