  • Using three 23″ Cinema HD monitors

I’m sure this has been dealt with before, but I’m running out of time. I’m trying to write a grant proposal for two new FCP editing suites. My question is this: Can I use three 23″ cinema HD displays? Two of them would be for editing and project management, and the third monitor would be for video display…the precise color correction of a more expensive system isn’t needed. I’ll be using a Kona 2 card, so I’m assuming the video out will run through that out of the G5. Has anybody done anything like this? I put a call into Apple, and the education sales rep didn’t follow…so I decided to go with the experts, you guys. If it matters, there will also be a Kona IO la in the suite for analog to SDI.

Yes but you will need a aja hdp and I would suggest instead of 3 cinema displays that you by a sony SDM-P234 better as a playback monitor. does vlocl at 60, 50 and 214 Ibelive where the cinema display only locks at 60

Didn’t Black Magic have a product to convert the input on a Cinema display to SDI? There it is. It’s called HDLink.

He metioned that he is using the Kona 2 card and from what I hear the converter is better in the aja box anyway

But it doesn’t do 4:4:4, and doesn’t allow you to alter the gamma or colour balance or anything. The HDLink does, and BMD keep adding features with their firmware updates. The HDLink is a great product.
