  • External hard drive… partition and format for both Mac and PC?

Posted by Miles King on May 10, 2005 at 3:00 pm

    Hi everyone,

I have a new 250GB Maxtor external firewire hard drive. I would like to partition it so I can use one for my FCP and other Mac work files and another to use on my PC for audio recording and extra storage. I’ve noticed that FAT32 can cause some issues with Mac compatibility… I worry that formatting the drive specifically for Mac may cause similar PC compatibility issues. How can I partition it and have a useful and trouble-free drive for both platforms?

    Thanks!

Put MacDrive on your PC and format your external drive for Mac HFS+ (NO JOURNALLING!).

You will be able to use the whole drive for both of your OS’s.

You can do a Post Search for MacDrive here at the Cow, but you will probably come up with the same answer.

    Don’t worry Mr. B. I have a cunning plan…

    PowerBook 1.67 Ghz ATI 9700 128 MB 2 GB
    Final Cut Pro HD
    DVD Studio Pro 3
    Motion
