    Hello to all,

I rented a DSR-1800 and I am outputting via firewire. Once I’ve outputted to tape, the audio mixer is going to do an audio lay-back using the same deck. I disconnected my DSR-11 and connected the DSR-1800 via firewire.

I am reading the manual, but if anyone can give me a crash course on setting this deck up (FCP settings, how to set TC so I can black and code a tape, or anything you can think of…) it would be greatly appreciated!

I tried doing a quick test and I have deck control via firewire and I was able to capture.

However, when I attempted to print to video the following message appeared.

“The selected audio and video devices do not match.
    -Apple Firewire NTSC (720×480)
    -Built-In Audio

Please verify that the audio and video outputs are externally routed to the intended devices.

    Do you want to proceed?”

What does this mean? And what should I do?

    Thanks so much!

My question is, if you are outputting via firewire, why did you chose a DSR-1800 over a DSR-11? The DSR-11 can take an output, and even work with your timeline TC:

I only use the 1800 when outputting via component cables, so I am no help there.

I rented it so the audio mixer could do an audio lay-back AND I thought I needed to use it to output because I did not know I could use the DSR-11 to stripe a tape. I just read the article you referenced. I am going to read it again, download the software and give it a try. I need to output tonight and I am getting a little frantic! 🙂

    Thanks so much!!!!

This project is for broadcast. Usually I record directly from my timeline. Will converting to a Quicktime movie and exporting into Simple Video Out affect the quality? Will the Quality Control guys give me a hard time?

Don’t use SimpleVideoOut to output the whole show. Use it to start the tape stripe…only black and record up to 1;01;00;00. Then you switch the deck TC settings to INT REGEN and Edit to Tape…from FCP.

Follow those instructions to a “T”
