I recently got the FCPHD and haven`t been able to capture succesfully. I`m trying to capture an NTSC VHS
through an A/D converter. I realy don`t know what i`m doing wrong. I have tried with the easy setups and
also making one. I`ve set it in non-controlable device and also tried in firewire protocol. Sometimes it
works out but most of the times it crashes in the first frame of the capture footage. After that i just
can`t do anything, the program just locks and most of the times i must restart the computer. After the
failed capture i go to the scratch folders and find out that i have a 100gb file that cant`t be opened
with the quicktime. I have set the minimum drive space to 85 gb so that
now every failed attempt doesn`t use the whole drive.

I would really apreciate any help.

What kind of drives are you using for your media drives? External FireWire? A separate Internal SATA? Hopefully, you’re capturing to a separate drive and not your boot drive. Also, limit capture now to 20 minutes. If these don’t work for you, look into dubbing the VHS tape to DV and capturing it that way.

The problem is most likely with Virex software you may have installed. Turn this off and it should work fine.

Hey!! thanks very much. Seems like the antivirus program was the problem. Everything`s running ok now, hope it stays like that.

I really, really appreciate your help. I dont`t think i`m ever going to be able to return the favor but i hope good things happen to you :).
