HI – I may have the opportunity to pick up a 1.0 Ghz Dual Xserve, can I run FCP on this as though it were a work station?

    Thanks for your input.

Yes, xserves make great editors. I have 4. But they are very loud, and should not be in the same room as you are. Oh, and they are long, around 29 inches. But non the less, They make great standard use macs, and with the server software you can even play with setting up your own video server.

    Go for it,

    Adam

(ps though, new 2.7GHZ G5s are coming out very soon… like in hours)

You shouldn’t have much trouble running FCP but according to the Apple tech person with whom I spoke, motion might give you some problems. Appearently, they don’t have much of a video card and there is no provision for adding one, motion being a video card driven application might have problems. Otherwise snag it, especially if you can get a good deal.
