    Hi All,

When I render a sequence in FCP, I get a with a narrow white strip across the top of the frame. I have never had this problem and after going through all my settings can’t figure it out. What is it? This project file came from a client.

    Any ideas ?

    THANKS!!! in advance,

    Jim

Is it a DV vs. D1 issue? (640×480 vs. 720×486)

That’s not a dumb question. So you’re saying it looks fine but when you render you get a white strip?

[Scott Davis] “Is it a DV vs. D1 issue? (640×480 vs. 720×486)”

    Scott…DV is 720×480 and D1 is 720×486.

    Just FYI.

Where is this white line? Is it consistant thru all your footage?

    Thanks for responding..

first; it is a thin (about 1/8″) white strip across the top with the word “” just like its typed in the center of the white strip, of the rendered footage, footage rendered ar 720×480 DV

second; sequence settings ntsc dv at 720 x 480

third; looks fine in FCP but the strip shows up in the render, I rendered both a QT and a FCP QT movie and it showed up on both.

    I’m stumped

    Thanks!!!

    Jim

I don’t know which one it might be, but is it possible you might be running a demo version of some software that will “watermark” your video when it’s rendered?
Seems strange it shows up only after you render.
    Just a thought…

It sounds like you are seeing the markers that are written by FCP to tell Compressor where transitions occur in the program. I saw this once when I exported a QT. When I checked my export setup I had Markers set to DVD Studio Pro and saw them in a thin band across the top of the exported QT.

It’s possible that your client exported the footage this way and you don’t see the band until you render it. Just a thought.

I agree — sounds like the marker track.

You can open the media file in QuickTime Player Pro and disable the text track. The markers will still be accessible via Quicktime, but they won’t be visible in your video anymore.

How do you disable the text track? I’m new to this as well and im seeing the white stripe with chapter data in it on my exported quick time files. I am not sure that I have quick time pro installed. I know I have quick time just not sure if quick time pro is different or where I would look for those settings.

You get a QuickTime Player Pro name & serial number when you buy FCP. Look for it in your box. Enter it under QuickTime Player -> Preferences -> Registration.

Once you do that, open up your media file in QuickTime. Edit -> Enable Tracks. Find the text track, and click the ON button — it’ll turn to OFF. Click the Ok button, save the file, and you should be all set. The chapter markers are still there, but they won’t appear in your video.
