    I have a storage question

I have two firewire 800 – 500 gig G drives for my new Mac G5. When we first hooked each of them to a dual 800 card, one of them worked rather sluglishly. We then daisy chained them and it then that funny drive worked fine. My question is, has anyone else run into the issue of a sluggish drive, and or has anyone run into issues of read/write with this type of set up. BTW these are 7200RPM drives.

I have not run into this problem…but also, have you ever thought of raiding them together? If you are going to work in a format other than DV, it would be suggested.

Are they both initialized with HFS+?

I have 2 LaCie Firewire 800s as well as a LaCie 250 all daisy-chained together and have had no problems with them on the G5. I am about to add another LaCie 200 extreme drive. According to one guy at my local Apple store, you can daisy chain up to 60 devices on a Firewire link… though you might have to build an addition to the studio to house them.
