  • Old M100 projects compatible with new M100 on newer system?

Posted by David Crews on April 26, 2016 at 2:21 am

My old Media100 system is running on a nine year old computer that I don’t trust to last much longer. It contains many old projects, some of which I occasionally need to return to and edit in M100 rather than transfer the raw footage to my modern iMac running Premiere and tediously reconstructing my commercial spots. I’d like to buy the new $99 M100 version and install it on my iMac, but I want to ask you all about compatibilities first. My iMac runs OSX 10.9.5. The version of M100 that my projects were mastered on originally was 13.0.4.
Will my old projects open and function OK in the newer M100 version? Any gotchas?
    Thanks very much.

    David

    Hello David,

Going from Media 100 13 to Media 100 Suite 2 should work just fine, as the metadata hasn’t really changed and M100 still uses Quicktime to read and write media. The primary things you would want to make sure of are that the Quicktime Components on your old Mac are present in the Quicktime directory in your new iMac, and that the media files have the same Created/Modified dates as they do on the current setup (although this wouldn’t be a problem if the files are already on an external drive).

    Thanks,

    Jon
