Im looking at upgrading from a Power PC G5 to a new Mac Intel. Im running Media100i ver 8.2.3 with a Vincent 601. What do I need to look out for before upgrading? Can I upgrade?

    Thanks,
    Chris

The P6000 boards cannot be used with Intel Macs;one reason is that the V8 app is PPC only, and when running a PPC app on an Intel Mac (under Rosetta) hardware access is restricted. Plus, you would need a PCI-Express to PCI chassis, which probably is not cheap to get the hardware connected at all.

You could easily upgrade to a Kona-, Matrox- or Blackmagic-based Media 100 system, though, depending on what Inputs and outputs you need. All your timelines and media files will work with the new systems easily. Or you could use the software-only version if you are working with disc-based sources or FireWire connections only.
