cant move z position
Posted by Picxsee on September 19, 2006 at 2:23 amhi,
I’m sure there is a simple answer to this but i cant seem to find it today.
I cant move the z position of any 3d layers in this particular comp. z scale works as does everything else, but not z position. If i try and drag the z position a white cross appears across the layer.
Wots the deal?!
Thanks

September 19, 2006 at 2:25 amDid you grab the handle when a “Z” appeared? That would mean you’ve grabbed the proper Z handle.

September 19, 2006 at 2:36 amThere is no handle. The little z appears but if i drag the white cross appears over the whole layer.
I can scrub the z position back and forth under transform, and change the z position value, but the layer doesnt move.?? Thanks 🙂

September 19, 2006 at 3:03 amIf you’re moving it in the front view, you won’t see any change. Have you tried dragging the Z while in a custom view?
(note that you can’t render custom views)

No its definately not that… this is strange. I’ve used a lot of 3d in ae and have never had this problem before.
I can change the z ‘value’ but it doesnt move/effect the object at all. 3d is working properly in other comps, but not in any layers in this comp. I’ve tried copying the layers and pasting into a new comp but this problem is still there. Each layer is a solid with objects drawn in vector paint. I am wanting to arrange them in 3d space and move a camera through, but obviously cant get the z position to cooperate and therefore cant get the depth i need to fly the camera through. The x and y handles are there, and when i hover the mouse over the object the small z appears, but no handles with it (no matter how zoomed in i go (its not just hiding).)
very odd.
