P2 footage to/from AE
Feel like I am losing my mind a bit, but I am just trying to do some simple CC of P2 footage in AE (working with mxf file) and then rendering out for Media 100 HD. No matter if I work at 960 or 1280, when I render into the MHD codec and import my footage is occupying the full frame, but is showing about 25% of the pic, and is playable only from within the application. This is happening on both our HDx and HDe boxes running 12.1.3 (perhaps right before I updated from 12..1.1?). I swear I did this a couple of weeks ago and it worked fine. Same when rendering to animation. Suggestions? Similar results when I import P2 into Media100and then take it to AE and back. Its fine coming in to MHD but funky coming back from AE.

Try to set the quicktime codec settings in the output module to interlaced. I am not sure if this is the cause of your problems, but sometimes setting the Media 100 HD codec to progressive gives wrong results.

Hmmm, you are sure your pixel dimensions are correct (either 1920*1080 or 1280*720)?

Rendering out at 1280×720. If you are working with P2 footage in AE what is the workflow you use? I know its native @ 960×720 1.33 PAR, and if you bring in right into AE as MXF that’s what it comes in as. I am really stumped…

The question is what codec you are rendering into. I don´t use P2 stuff much, but I usually would tend to create a 720 full pixel comp (1280*720), and render e.g. into ProRes in this resolution.

I am rendering into the Media100 HD codec as of now. I will try a render into ProRes first thing on Monday when I get back to the system and post results. Thanks again Floh.

Did some testing this morning with this issue. Rendering to ProRes HQ just gives me snow after M100 does a fast import. I have also done some tests with just a black frame with some AE generated text at both 1280×720 and 960×720 with not footage at all with the same results. I can play all this material at the desktop in QT without a problem. I can also import material into M100 by “import to media standard and codec’ and force the file to be completely rewritten.
Something about the header rewrite is not working for me. Any suggestions? Since we’re new to working in the HD frame sizes am I missing something really basic in setting up in AE? This is really killing me 🙁
