I have cut a 12.5 hour program that I would like to move onto a firewire drive. I’m using M100 8.2.2 on G4Dual 1.4 OS 10.3.9 with a 2.5TB Macgurus box with Sata controller card. I purchased a seagate 400gb external firewire drive and it doesn’t seem to like the project media folder I’m trying to drag on to it. It says that some of the file names are too long and contain symbols the drive doesn’t recognize. Do I need to stripe/format this drive before I can xfer m100 media files to it using disk utilities? Any thoughts are appreciated. Also, any suggestions on what to do (and not to do) when archiving a project like this. Should I export it as a QT File also? Kind Regards, Chris K.

Select the new volume in the Finder and do a Get Info. In the info window, there’s an entry called “Format.” Yours is probably formatted as WIN32 (or FAT, or something along those lines). Assuming there’s nothing of value on the drive, reformat it as Mac OS Extended.
