  • Export from FCP to M100 for Mastering

Posted by Paul_p. on April 11, 2006 at 1:30 pm

I need to export QT from FCP for impoting into M100HD for tape playout. Original footage digitised on FCP using default DV PAL preset and subsequently is Lower Field First, which produces the field-stuttering when imported into M100HD.

Any ideas of a quicker way round this other than rendering out via AE with single field (as the program is 70mins long) ?

No EDL option as original tapes not available.

    Thanks.

What version of HD are you using? We have transferred various DV PAL files from FCP as self-contained DV files to Media 100 HD without seeing the field reverse problem. I think we have done that in 10.1.3, haven

Using M100 10.1.3, with the media set on the media100i.

The result looks fine till you get quick vertical movement then it all falls apart, which i am presuming is a field order issue.

    cheers

Have you exported from FCP as self-contained or as Media 100 i codec? HD is able to play back FCP DV files in realtime without rendering…

They are self contained FCP DV PAL files created using the default settings, they are coming from an external source and so i’m not able to instal any additional codecs, i can probably direct them to adjust the export settings but thats about it.

But I have been testing it here from a Powerbook to the M100 HD suite and i’m still getting the same problem…..

    hhhhhhmmmmm…

OK, here’s the opposite side of Floh’s question: how are you importing the clips? Are they coming in without being rendered into a Media100 codec (“fast import”)?

Will try both ideas out – both the fast import and with conversion to M100 codec.

    Will get back to you.

    Thanks for the help.

For what it’s worth, I spent much of yesterday pulling DV clips digitized in FCP into M100 HD, no rendering and no new file creation from M100. This is in NTSC-land. All I did was drag them from the hard drive to an empty bin in M100. M100 “updates” the file, but doesn’t re-render it. And FCP still sees it fine after the “updating”.

This is the question I should have asked first: what rev of M100HD are you running? There was a bug with PAL DV import that was fixed with 10.1.4, it is exactly the field problem you’re having.

    i’m off to upgrade……

thanks to all for their help.
