I am editing my first 16×9 project in Media 100 and I need to end up with a 16×9 Windows Media file. I do this a lot in 4×3 aspect ratio but I’m running into trouble at 16×9. A search of the posts here indicate that others have trouble as well, but my search didn’t turn up a solution.

My Media 100 is on a Mac. I usually compress in ProCoder on the PC. Typically I either export a file from M100 or master to tape on a DSR20 and then take that video into the PC for ProCoder compression. But on this 16×9 project I can’t get out of anamorphic mode. Everything I try ends up vertically squished.

As a workaround I have taken the M100 product into After Effects and I am sizing it there. But I have concerns about quality loss doing that. Am I missing something? How can I render a 16×9 project out of Media 100 on a Mac to be compressed on the PC as a 16×9 Windows Media file?

export your video out of media 100 either by reference or self-contained, and bring it into either cleaner 6 or flip4mac. From either one of those programs you can export the desired size and aspect ratio.

Thanks for the advice, Bobby. I’m sure your suggetion would work. In the meantime I found that there can be a big difference between anamorphic 16×9 files. By finally determining the properties of the material I was working with, I was able to use my normal workflow and achieve success. But if I hadn’t, your note would have been invaluable. Thanks.
