  Nesting / Un-Nesting – Changing the Length of a Sequence – Problem.

  Newbie – and I say “Thank you” in advance for any insight you can provide…

  Here’s the problem. (Editing a bunch of 200 stills to a music video and then adding transition EFX.)

  Assume, as an illustration, I have a sequence of clips; some 2 seconds, some 4, some 8 and some 16 seconds long.
  Assume the whole sequence runs to 3 minutes. I want to proportionally SHRINK the entire sequence by 50% – so the 2’s become 1’s, the 4’s become 2’s etc.

  The new sequence would run to 1.5 minutes.

  I can Make the nest. I can shrink the nest to 30 seconds. It works perfectly.
  BUT!
  When I want to open the sequence of the newly shrunk individual clips to add the transitions between the clips, I double click the nest and BOING it pops open back to its ORIGINAL timings. I’ve accomplished nothing.

  The Question: How do I un-nest a nest so that it OPENS showing me each individual clip in the original sequence, But with the new timings.

  WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

  If you are changing the speed on your nested timeline, you are not affecting the original media within the nest, only the nested sequence. Similarly, if you do the same in an AE comp and change the speed of a Precomp, you change the precomp speed, but do not affect the original media lengths within the precomp.

  You will need to go in and edit each clip to length.

  Thanks for the sad news…

  SAD news indeed. Essentially I want to:
  1. Start with a sequence of clips ( approx. 200 STILL PHOTOS – 3 minutes long.)
  2. Nest them into one long sequence
  3. Reduce the nested sequence by a fixed percentage, (say 38.27%).
  4. Then maybe CLONE this shortened, nested sequence somehow.
  5. And then De-nest it into a bunch of NEW shortened individual clips if need be.
  6. Even if if these new shortened clips were somehow saved to the media library and I had to drag them into a brand new shorter sequence – that would be a big time victory over individually shortening each clip.

  The object is a very fast moving EDM music video. The images are now timed in a sequence to match a work version of the audio track. The finished audio track has exactly the same musical structure but is performed much faster than the work version. If I can shrink the sequence images to match the length of the final audio I will be “close enough for jazz” and can ripple edit here and there if needed.

  Otherwise, square one city.
