Re: making lights “visible” in AE
Hi Guys! Thanks for the help the first time round! I manage to use the script and played around with it so the scene is really starting to look great. The problem now is that After Effects crashes as soon as the camera starts to move. So in the end the Quicktime Movie I render out only shows the scene before anything starts to move (including the scripted spotlights). And the first still shot is only a blueish backround without any spots at all. I think it’s the script that make AE crash because I’ve never had the problem before.
I don’t know if I installed the script properly, though. All I did was save it in the scripts folder by clicking on ‘save file’ in safari (with the script text being shown in the browser window) and then taking the appendix ‘.txt’ away from the filename so only ‘.jsx’ remained. I didn’t take out any of the describing textlines in the script. Is that maybe a problem?

Just to let you know: I figured out what the problem was. Adding the volumetric-lights script to the lights in my comp added a funny square textobjet in the expressions-lines at every line-break. I cut those out and whoops everything worked brilliantly. Thanks for the hint once again! I actually understand more about expressions now!!

Maybe it was like you said something to do with copying it with Safari, I downloaded the script from the link in the second-to-last sentence at the bottom of the page, “Download the Script’. When I run the script no little weird text objects. I hadn’t used the script much, but it rendered fine when I tried it. I do think Lux is the slick way to go, but I like the script too. Glad it finally worked for you.
