Need some help with the captioning tool, I think. Have imported a .srt file into Premiere, cut into timeline, and all the text comes in nicely. All text is also readable and editable in the caption tool. All good. Thing is, a semi-transparent box immediately behind the text is getting arbitrarily added and I can’t figure out how to turn it on or off. I think I’d just like it universally on. Is it something native to the .srt file? Something in the caption tool? Thanks in advance!

Captions are not subtitles. It is just metadata in the file containing text, color and position.
SRT does NOT hold postition and color in most instances. (Although it ‘is’ sorta kinda possible.)

IOW, the end user set creates the captions on the fly, normally ugly with a solid box behind it. Nothing you can do about that.

(It’s 40 year old technology made for low bandwidth analogue addition to existing tv broadcast)

If you want total control and burn in, have a look at subbits from my site.
(It has a nice premiere workflow, see here:)
