  • Clean up crawl noise and dots – simple solution?

Posted by Kell Smith on May 3, 2018 at 7:19 pm

This video has been coming from multiple-times-baked SD DVD video and has extensive edge dots and flicker crawling noise. Is there a simple solution within the Premiere filters that can make this a little better without external software?
We are not talking a small area here, this is throughout a long video, short clips with varying amounts of noise.
I”m thinking the answer is no, but worth asking.
    Thanks

    2 hour program.
She’s not paying me for noise removal – the source is bad quality – so I don’t want to get extensive, just to improve matters.
It’s like a wet, flickering anthill, with looming mosquitoes Hours-long program so AE dynamic link would be a nightmare.

Less elegant solution: scale the footage up.

Wouldn’t be applicable to this project – it’s to size for DVD – but I’m curious as to what you would do and how it would affect the footage.

You can scale up a few percent with the dvd resolution: 102% maybe.

Interesting. So just to clarify, scale each clip up to 102 in motion effects? Curious, how would that affect the noise? Willing to give that a shot, but wouldn’t it increase it?

Since it looks like an anthill surrounded by mosquitoes, I’m thinking a can of Raid is called for.

try digital anarchy flickerfree and neatvideo trials. only thing better than that is hardware boxes or special restoration programs.
