  • Possible to add a transition automatically to overlapping clips?

Posted by Sean Mcnally on January 22, 2018 at 6:41 pm

    Hi there,

Longtime Sony Vegas user, switching over to premiere. One gripe I found with Premiere is that when two clips overlap, one takes a “bite” out of the other, and cuts it off.

In Vegas, this was handled much more eloquently, as overlapping clips would automatically create a transition, like this:

Is there any way to get this functionality in Premiere? If not, is it possible for a plugin to achieve this (even if one hasn’t been made yet?) Thanks.

EDIT: To be clear, this is the “bite” I’m talking about. This drives me nuts!

won’t you have to remove the transition after you have made the trim?
i usually place the clip on the right on an upper layer and do the trim there.
sometimes you just have to embrace new editing software and move on.
i had to do that when moving from FCP7 to Premiere concerning track matte keying.
FCP7 was a snap. Premiere not so.
you could send a “feature request” to Adobe.

No, the functionality I’m looking for is that Premiere won’t trim overlapping clips, and will instead add a transition between them. Will consider sending a request to Adobe, or perhaps looking into the SDK to see if I could finagle writing a plugin for this…
