  New Computer for Premiere Pro: running audio to venerable XLR Genelec speakers

  Hello All

  I hope I’m posting to the appropriate forum.

  I am in the process of upgrading my old Mac Pro (Early 2009) to a new Imac. My old setup used a Matorx IO, sending the computer audio to the speakers via XLR.

  This IO unit is now broken and given the nature of the work I do plus the advances in monitor technology, I don’t think I need one anymore.

  Question: would anyone care to comment or suggest an audio setup that could work well with Premiere Pro, the Imac and still allow me to use these very fine speakers? Perhaps just an audio usb IO is adequate?

  If it helps I was considering the following equipment:
  1 x iMac Pro 3.2GHz 8-core Intel Xeon W processor 32Gig
  1 x G-Speed Shuttle with thunderbolt 3 16TB
  1 x Drobo 5C 10 TB (for backups)

  Any suggestions are most welcome.

  You can go really cheap and go from the headphone out to a small mixer and than to the speakers. This might be best for keeping audio and video in sync.

  I have this on a system and set the Mac alerts to the internal speakers.

  Two options I use a lot:

  1) Mackie Blackjack Onyx all-in-one USB interface/monitor mixer, or
  2) Presonus Audiobox USB audio i/o connected to small analog mixer, like a small Mackie (my preferred method)

  Hmm… Im a bit of a snob so I think I might go with an audio IO.
