  • Premiere Project won’t open on multiple Macs

We have 3 iMacs, all with the same operating system (macOS Sierra, version 10.12.6) and the latest version of Premiere, and we also have two LaCie 5big 20 TB drives (one we use to edit with and the other is a clone.) When we try and move our 20TB LaCie drive from our main editing station to iMac #2 and #3 the Premiere projects won’t open up, and we get a message that reads “An unknown error occurred while opening the project.” Also, when we try to drag or copy media to the desktop from the hard drive another error message pops up saying, “The finder can’t complete the operation because some data can’t be read or written. (Error code -36).” We have also set the permissions to read & write for the drives.

Has anyone else encountered this problem or know of a solution? We are just trying to be able to work on our Premiere projects from different work stations.

Is the LaCie Mac-formatted? Does the same thing happen with the clone? Have you tried one of the project back-up files?

Disk Warrior on the Lacie. Never liked Lacie controllers about as much as I am not liking CC 2017 or 2018.

    Hi Oliver,

Oddly yes, it happens on the back up as well. But if we copy a project file over to another drive, it seems to open just fine so we’re considering copying all of the assets of the main drives over to a new back up and then re-formatting the Lacie drives and start over. Thanks for the insight,

    P
