Subtitles from Avid .stl File
Posted by Clay Coleman on November 24, 2017 at 9:24 pmSo supposedly Pr supports .stl subtitle files but I’m having no luck with an .stl file an Avid editor handed over to me for an Online edit.
The question appears to have been posted before but there doesn’t seems to be an answer…
Anyone?
Thx,

November 25, 2017 at 1:22 amHere is what Adobe says:
https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/working-with-captions.htmlProbably that doesn’t help.
If you have plain English text:
Convert .stl (EBU) to .srt using the free Belle Nuit app.
Import that into PPro.With other text types:
Use Belle Nuit to convert to “image type” subtitles.
Use Subbits to convert to “image type” subtitles.
and so on
or
Convert to .srt and use my free PS Titles to convert to PhotoShop
or
Convert to .srt and use my premiereTitlesOr finally ask this question again in about 1 year 😉

November 26, 2017 at 7:08 pmHey Andreas,
thanks for your reply, good to hear from you.
I have two files of the subtitles;
1) an .stl which, upon import in PrPro gives, me an error message saying that the file can’t be imported because of an header error.
2) a .txt file which I can’t open in TextEdit but I can open in Safari. It contains all the dialogue as well as TC INs and OUTs. One could use this if one actually wanted to sit down and copy/paste all of the text (for approx 40 Minutes of dialogue) into a new timeline, manually enter the timecodes and then export that with an Alpha for import into DaVinci for the OnLine Masterfile. Ouch.
I’ll give it a try in Belle Nuit and let you know. (Or, I could tell the client to wait a year and complain to you ????
Cheers,

The text one seems the easier way to go.
You can send me the file, I’ll have a look and tell you what to do.
