No playback from timeline
We just had new desktops placed before us – Dell Opti 7050’s. WIN10, 16GB RAM, with video on the motherboard.
They also put CC2017 on them, knowing these machines are not spec’d for Adobe CC on the video side, for sure.
We did have 2015 on our previous WIN7 desktops, and it did work, as log as we didn’t ask too much of them.
Media is on a separate, internal 7200RPM drive.
In case it was a 2017 thing, I also went back and installed PPro 2015.4. I am using that version.
When I hit play, with just one plain clip on the timeline, nothing happens. Nothing. It just sits there and doesn’t even attempt to play.
Ideas?

Welcome to MY world!!! ???? Or, what used to be my world. J/K Jon. You were always one of the more sympathetic ears to my woes. I have to wonder what you all had before the switch. If better, then why on earth would your workstations be replaced with weaker ones? Oh, and just for the record, my previous PC, which was even weaker than what they just gave you, played clips fairly easily, even in 2015.4. So those built in graphics cards must be really weak.

The playhead doesn’t move and the timecode doesn’t run? That’s a really old bug that has gone away with a preference trashing and/or restarting Premiere.

Answered! Incorrect audio device class. Once I changed it from ASIO to MME, everything was normal.

Yes, holding down “Option” on startup of Premiere and then choosing to reset preferences did the trick for me (after hours of trying other things…sigh…) Hope this helps someone!
