  Demo Reel

  Dear Creatives,

  I’m in the process of making a demo reel and I’m wondering
  two things.

  1) Is it unethical/not-smart to create a montage of different shots/effects for my demo reel that were created ENTIRELY FOR aforementioned demo reel. So I AM creating the shots myself*, but they just aren’t derived from, well, anything.

  2) * Okay, one of the shots might be a character walking around in flames with a dark background (James Bond-ish, I imagine). If the flames are stock footage that I didn’t film myself, BUT I DID film the character in front of a green screen, and did the editing myself, is THAT unethical/not-smart to put in my demo-reel?

  It depends what you are demonstrating. If you super the demo “Compositing” then viewers will understand you did the comp but not the image creation. Basically tell the viewer what they are seeing and your role
