Proxy files for 5k doesn’t play smooth when attached but when imported?
Been working in premiere for about 6 months, Love it so far but having a problem.
I am doing a project in 1080 @23.976 that was shot on the RED epic. It’s a multi cam talking head shoot with mixed resolutions (no problem). I am bringing in the RED footage raw and creating proxies for all of the 4k and 5k media. The 4k media (4096×2160) works great. The proxies I’m making are ProRES 422 Proxy 2048×1080. It’s “yellow” in the timeline, playback is great, everything is cool.
The 5k (5120×2700) is what I’m having problems with. Since it’s the same aspect ratio I’m using the same proxy setting (2048×1080) but for some reason when I bring it into the timeline it’s “red” and playback stutters. If it’s attached to the same sized proxy wouldn’t it be “yellow” as well? What’s even weirder to me is that if I just drag in the proxy file directly into Premiere then it shows up black and plays fine.
Am I missing something? If they are connected to the same sized proxy file shouldn’t they both playback fine? And why does it work when I drag the proxy file in directly?

I believe your resolution has to be exactly half.
So your 4k footage is good because 4096 ÷2 = 2048 and 2160 ÷ 2 = 1080. Therefore your 4k proxy dimensions would be 2048 X 1080
Your 5k footage would have to be 5120 ÷ 2 = 2560 and 2700 ÷ 2 =1350. Meaning your 5k proxy dimensions should be 2560X1350 for you 5k footage.

Yea I thought the same thing too. Maybe it was a debayering thing but that that didn’t help either. Still “red” in the timeline. But more importantly should that matter?
