Please forgive me if this is already answered, I tried the search function but couldn’t find the answer.

I am about to assemble a computer the the following hard drives and components, and want to optimize things for video editing in Premiere. I would like suggestions as to which drive I should install the OS (windows 8.1) and programs. In terms of cache and rendering, I understand those are easier to change later, but I want to get the OS and programs right the first time. M.2 SSD drives are a fairly new thing, I am not sure what to use it for. I am open to adding more drives in the future. Thanks!

250 GB Samsung xp941 SSD m.2 drive (m.2 should be the fastest drive)
500 GB Samsung 850 Pro SSD SATA
3 TB 7200 RPM Seagate internal
5 TB 5400 RPM Seagate external
    Motherboard ASUS x99-E WS
    CPU i7-5960X
    RAM 32 GB DDR4

    Thanks,

    JB

If you can keep your OS disk clean then the 250 gig should do fine.

Thanks. I guess what I had in mind is am I better saving the apparently much faster m.2 drive for something else, or should I put the OS on it (thinking in terms of performance optimization)? Thanks,

    JB

Go to preferences > Media > Media Cache Database and set that fast drive as the Location, this will speed up renders quite a bit.
