  • Issue with video dialogue when viewed on mobile

    Hi all

I am new here but here goes…

We are recording some videos at work with the following setup:

    Canon legria hf10 hd camera
    Wireless trantec lapel mic
    And editing in premier pro

The wireless mic is connected via the audio in jack on the camera. The problem we are having is when we finish editing the video and upload to YouTube, the audio when played on a mobile device is gargled. See this video (please view on a mobile phone)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rr_YrkI__zM

It seems to play perfectly fine on desktop PC and iPad.

Previously we used a shotgun mic connected through the mini advanced shoe and the audio was fine on mobile device.

When we play back the recording on the camera just after we’ve done one take you can hardly hear it the sound.

Can anyone shed any light on what we are doing wrong?

If you need any more info please ask.

    Thanks in advance

    Martin,

What format was the video and audio when you uploaded to YouTube. This is the strangest thing. I listened on my iPhone and heard the strange noise. I would try to re-upload to YouTube and see if that does anything. Make sure you are using YouTubes recommended settings for audio. My guess is something weird happened when YouTube encoded your video or your audio codec you used is not what YouTube wants.

This issue didn’t occur when i uploaded this video i haven’t changed the export setting from premiere pro, they are the same setting just using a different mic.

This video uses a shotgun mic and this works fine. Is it possible that setting on the camera could have tampered with and changed the recording of the audio?

If it plays back fine on your computer – but not after, then something is wrong in your workflow chain, not in your recording. (It may be a mastering problem.)

You’re building files for ‘mobile’ via youtube. The problem here is we don’t know what exactly youtube is giving your client nor what they’ve done to your video.

What are you giving youtube? Are you using the Adobe Media Encoder Youtube setting?
Second, where are your audio levels?

    Whoa. Wait.

I went and actually listened to the video on my iPhone. Yeah, try sending it up to youtube again. I think that’s a screwed up encode – not a problem in your workflow.
