  Duplicating titles problem

  (I may’ve solved this already – read the end first if you’re in a hurry!)

  Here’s something I’d like to solve (NOTE: I’m still on Prem Pro CS3):
  I’m making a title clip with a fade (I might be adding other keyframed efffects too). I want to duplicate that clip elsewhere in the sequence, but with different text.
  If I just do a simple cut’n’paste, whatever changes I make to the text on either clip are applied to ALL the copied clips.
  I’d like to be able to copy and paste the title clip as totally independant clips that I can change without affecting the original clip.
  Currently all I can do is duplicate the title in the bin and Past Attributes from the original clip. This isn’t ideal if I want to lengthen or shorten some of the titles (eg if there’s more text to read).

  Ahh, I think I may’ve solved it already: i) Copy the clip, ii) Duplicate the title in the bin and give it a new name, iii) Use “Replace With Clip” on the new clip.

  Let me know if there’s a better way than that. Thanks!

  When you double click an existing title in the sequence and it opens up, you click on the “New Title Based on Current title” icon see pic:

  

  That will save as for you. Modify, close.

  Then in the sequence, right click on the old tile you copied from before and replace from bin.
  Is one way to do it.

  Ooh, thanks! There are so many things hidden away in p-pro that don’t appear in the menus; I should do more hovering over buttons to see what’s available. (like I didn’t know about shift-L and shift-J to alter playback speed – I used to sit there with my finger on the mouse on the shuttle control!). Oh and *there* are the templates!

  I think I’ll combine this with my copy-clip-and-replace-from-bin technique; so I can make multiple instances of a title using the T button, duplicate my clips (with their fades and any other keyframed stuff), then replace contents with the titles in the bin. Better than copy-pasting titles in the bin (‘cos they all get given the same name)
  Excellent: saved some time and reduced risk of mistakes! 🙂
