  • Premiere CS6 – HD clip not scaled when inserted into SD timeline

When I insert an HD clip into an SD timeline in Premiere Pro CS6 the clip does not get scaled. I can go in and manually scale the hd clip so that they match but I want them to scale automatically. Please advise. I’m using the free trial of Premiere Pro CS6.
    Thank you!

Edit > Preferences > General, check “Default Scale to Frame Size”

For what you’ve editing so far, scale back to 100% and right click the clip in the timeline and select “Scale to frame size” per clip.

These settings will scale the long end of your footage. In most situations you’ll end up with shadowboxes when going from HD -> SD. If you want more of a full frame pan & scan thing, then yes you’ll have to scale and positing each clip manually.

I tried the following with my current project
Edit > Preferences > General, check “Default Scale to Frame Size”

But hd clips are still not scaled automatically.

I created a new project and sequence, did the above and clips were automatically scaled.

    Any thoughts?

In CS4 after Edit > Preferences > General, check “Default Scale to Frame Size” you need to reimport the files or as you already did make a new project.
