Can’t get some shortcut keys to keep working, esp, “next and previous edit”
I’m ready to jump ship but I’m having a really annoying key mapping issue. I can’t for the life of me get the “next edit” keys to be the same as FCP and continue working. I see the default is “page up and down” and I’ve remapped them to my Powerbook’s “up and down” keys, just like FCP.
What’s weird is that it sometimes works and then sometimes I lose the cursor line and it goes to the end of the timeline or just ether. Then I click with the mouse the “next edit” button to get it back and sometimes the shorcut keys work.
A workaround, which works all the time is to remap the right and left keys for “next edits” and the up and down keys for “one frame.” But when I switch it back and have “next edit” with the up and down keys, it goes all over the place. I guess I could retrain years of using the shortcut I use the most, but why.
Is PP really this buggy? If so, it’s not a good sign to make the switch. Can anyone help out here.

When I first started with PP, I too choose the FCP keyboard short cuts. But honestly, the PP standard keystrokes were easy to pickup and the keystroke for audio trans made me switch back to PP. You have to adjust a little bit but it won’t take long and you’ll know em all.

Okay, I seem to understand the problem. The shortcut works if I only have the “Canvas” window highlighted in orange, which takes an extra click, which is beyond stupid, which defeats the purpose of a shortcut. In FC it just works without having to highlight what paned you need the shortcut. Does anyone have a solution for this?

I’ve also been having a very hard time making transitions. I have it mapped to Command + T for the default. So I have the playhead between two clips and then hit command + T and nothing happens. Then I go and shift and select both clips then hit command and T and then my default transition happens. So for this shortcut, I have to highlight the two clips first? Please tell me this is not true.

Highlight track, place playhead over cut: Ctrl+D for video Ctrl+Shift+D (ctrl = command?, pc girl)
With your previous mapped shortcut you can select a whole timeline and add the default transition.———————————————–

If you don’t start with the FCP shortcuts and are making your own (sounds like you are). Be sure to go into the Keyboard Shortcuts panel and make sure that “Panels” is selected in the drop down menu. Type “Edit” into the search field. There you should be able to change the keyboard shortcuts for Next/Previous Edit to the way you like. Also make sure the tracks are selected that you want to use the command for.
