  HELLLP — premiere pro 7.0 aspect ratio problem

  hi

  i’m completely new to premiere and i’m sure this is pretty basic but i can’t figure it out. i’ve been working on a project for several weeks now. the project is done and i tried to export it. what comes out is all WRONG — the image is stretched vertically, so people’s faces are warped really lonnnnng — except, strangely enough, the few clips that i’ve scaled and/or position transformed using the motion effects box. what i get on the preview window is fine — it’s exactly what i want. what is exported looks nothing like the preview window. isn’t there a way to get exactly what i see on the screen?

  i’m working under windows xp pro. the source of my project is a dv cam. the source avi imported from the cam is 720×576, 25fps. i found a tool called gspot by searching this forum, and it tells me the source avi has three parameters which i’m assuming are different kinds of aspect ratios: sar=1.250, par=1.422, dar=1.778. the container type is listed as ‘dv type 2 avi’.

  the exported avi has exactly the same characteristics as the source avi.

  i’ve tried exporting the video in both 4:3 format and 16:9 format, the resulting avi’s both have the same problem.

  when i started the project, i chose the following project settings: 720×576, 25fps, d1/dv pal 1.067. i’m guessing this is where i goofed, because i don’t see these numbers anywhere in the gspot window. not sure though — but in any event there’s absolutely no way i can start over!

  can someone tell me what’s going wrong and how i can salvage my project?

  Indeed, but the solution is quite simple.

  Create a new project using PAL 1.422 and then import the other project into the new one.

  You will see a bin in the Project Panel with the name of the imported project. Open that bin and you will see the clips and sequences. Double-click on a sequence to open it in the timeline panel.
