Working on a show that is to air on Versus on April 4th. Just had my HDCAM masters sent back due to audio issues. To put it simply, I really am a bit clueless when it comes to audio. According to Versus’ tech guidelines audio needs to be setup as follows:

    Channel 1 – Stereo Left
    Channel 2 – Stereo Right
Channel 3 – Mono “Mix Minus” (Full mix of all elements except for announce, includes natural sound, sound on tape, and music)
Channel 4 – Announce Only if available, if not, then full mono mix

Any help on how to specify which audio goes to which channel, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

I believe what you’re looking for is discussed in the Map audio channels section of the Premiere Pro Help.

You will also find links to many free tutorials in the PremiereProPedia that will quickly show you how things are done in Premiere Pro.

    Cheers

    Hi Jason,

Basically go through and have a read of what eddie linked as a background.

But essentially what you want is 4 channels setup in premiere as follows

A1 – Stereo L (This will be your full mix Left)
    A2 – Stereo R (Full Mix Right)
    A3 – Mono (Mix minus narration/VO)
A4 – Mono (VO on its own)

im not sure what package you’ve used to do the audio mix on this particular job, but getting the mixdowns out of most software packages is fairly easy, once thats done just bring them into premiere and sync them up with your video for a playout to tape.
Assuming your channels are routed out correctly you should be good as gold and very much on your way to a successful tech check 🙂
