  Is there a “Mark Clip” option that you can set in the Keyboard Shortcuts?

  I just started using Premiere CS3. I’ve set up everything to my liking, but I can’t find a listing in the menu where you assign keyboard shortcuts to “Mark a Clip”.

  In Avid and Final Cut there is an option to set the in and out point to the start and end of the clip where the playhead is located.

  I imagine this functionality exists in Premiere, but I can’t seem to find it.

  Any help would be much appreciated.

  I can sometimes be a bit long-winded in my responses, so bear with me. 🙂

  There are a couple of ways to edit in Premiere. Some like to edit in the Editing Monitor by double clicking on a clip in the project bin.
  I prefer to edit directly in the timeline.

  It sounds like you’re looking for functionality in using the Editing Monitor?
  1-Double-click on a clip in the project bin, so it opens in the Editing Monitor (as opposed to the Playback Monitor).
  2-Scrub the Editing Monitor’s CTI to the desired position and…
  i = Inpoint
  o = Outpoint
  * (on the Number Pad) = Set Unnumbered Marker
  , = Insert
  . = Overlay
  3-Once you set your In/Out points in the Editing Monitor, you will set the CTI in the Sequence Timeline to the desired position and either Insert (,) or Overlay (.).

  Pretty much all of the buttons in Premiere will display Tool Tips when you hover your mouse over them. Hover over all of the buttons at the bottom of the Editing Monitor and you will see all of the shortcuts I mentioned above.

  Thanks for your response. You answer was very helpful and super close to answering my question.

  When you are in the timeline and the CTI is in the middle of a clip, I’m looking for a button that sets the in point at the beginning of the next edit to the left of the CTI and the out point at the edit to the right of the CTI.

  In Avid this command is called “Mark Clip” and its keyboard default is the letter T.

  hmmm. I want to say, click Ctrl+K to cut at the CTI.
  I don’t know if that’s quite what you are looking to do.
  I just don’t have the experience with Avid or FCP to make the distinction.

  I’d look under Marker or Sequence on the main menu to see if there are any of the functions that you need in the timeline.
  As far as shortcuts for timeline edits, they look kinda’ limited.
  There might be something closer to what you are used to by editing in the Editing Window (unsure??).
