  16×9 v 4×3 pixel ratio

  Hi All.

  I am trying to create a DVD with premiere and my JPEG images are ‘sqaushing’ when written to DVD.

  The goal is to play the disc on a 42inch Plasma screen. Should I use 16×9 or 4×3 pixel ratio to stop the images squashing? I do not want a black line top and bottom of the screen. I want a full screen image. Would this be because I am using the wrong pixels in PhotoShop – square instead of 16×9?

  I have also created a 3D animated logo (in Max 7) and this is also ‘squashing’ up.

  I imagine your plasma is a 16:9 display? If so, you’d want to edit in a 16:9 project. Regardless, you’ll need to reformat you images.
  I’d just multiply the height dimension of the square pixel images by 1.2, interpret the images as Square Pixels once in Premiere, than Effect/Transform/Distort the height to about 83.5%.

  Regarding Max, I’m not sure if Max allows for variable PARs. So, if you’re working with square pixel output, set the frame size to 864×480, and the clip should drop perfectly into a 16:9 project.

  Another thought, if this is ever going to be seen on a CRT you might want to “deflicker” your still images…
