  Capture in iMovie, Edit in Premiere Pro?

  I curently editin with Premiere Pro 2.0 on my PC desktop.

  I’m getting a new laptop, and one of the things I want to do with it is capture video directly to file instead of to tape.

  I’m thinking about getting a new Macbook to capture video in iMovie, but I’ve heard that the files iMovie creates don’t work with Premiere Pro.

  Is this true? Is there a setting in iMovie to capture files that can then just be transfered over to my PC and work in Premiere Pro?

  Last time I played with iMovie, it captured as DV stream files, which Premiere Pro can’t read. You can use iMovie or QuickTime Pro (or any number of other apps) to convert the DV stream to a plain .MOV or .AVI file.

  Better yet, why don’t you dual boot the MacBook with XP using Boot Camp, install Premiere Pro, and capture with that? (Caveat: I have no idea if or how well Premiere will run on a Mactel, but I’ve heard only good things so far about performance of the Mactel machines running XP.)

  Oh man… that’s a great idea. Why didn’t I think of that!

  Out of curiosity… just in case the dual boot senario doesn’t work well…. when Quicktime Pro converts the DV stream to AVI… how well does it do it? Does it damage the video quality much?

  Just don’t quite understand what you might go to a Mac and still use Premiere ? Have you looked at FCP. If you like Premiere why would you not stay with a pc laptop ? Just curious why you are mixing
