    Hello,
I have another device error in Adobe Encore “Device error – sense code (3 02 00) No seek complete – read (DVD error 197120

It is a simple avi file about 2 hours and 30 minutes saved from PPro. There are no transitions or effects. The only thing I can think of is that it is too large for the DVD – R 16x 4.7 120min? I’m using a new Dell XPS. I only ask because 6 DVD’s came out o.k. but some show this error. Any help is great!

Sense code errors are generated by your DVD drive. The most common reasons are that you have a bad disc, or that you’re using the wrong type of media (+R in a drive that only uses -R, for example).

Other causes could be interference with the drive- try using msconfig (Start > Run > type msconfig, click OK) to turn off all the startup items and non-MS services.

2+ hours is a little long to put on a burned DVD, but it will fit. The quality will just be poor. Point is that the length alone is not the cause of the problem.

Thank you. At first blush I believed it was the discount Memorex DVD-R. I don’t have a problem burning them one at a time. The error shows when I try to burn 2 or more in a series. My burner is 4X and the DVD’s are 16X. Is that a problem?

    Thanks again.

In theory, a higher burn rating shouldn’t stop your drive from being able to burn the disc at slower speeds. But sometimes newer media like that just may not be very compatible with older drives.

You may actually want to try burning at a slower speed, like 1x or 2x. Sometimes that gets around some burning problems.

I too have a Dell XPS and had the same problem with my DVD-ROM drive. I placed the disk in my DVD-RW drive and it had no problems. I’m not sure if the RW drive has a larger buffer or not but it worked!

    Interesting.
I think mine was a combination of things. In the end it worked but I still could not copy more than one at a time.
