Fixing an out of focus footage post production
So I just filmed a lengthy take (about 1min) that required timing from actors and the camera man. This scene has the camera focusing onto the actor in front then filming the background. Since the scene was done in one shot, it’s hard to switch the depth of field using the lens.
So how can I fix the out of focus part in post production?
Here is what the film looks like. Before the first picture the actor was walking in front of the camera which made it hard to switch in between depth of fields.

Out of focus is out of focus. Not much you can do about that.

Try an Unsharp Mask filter to sharpen the out of focus part, but I don’t know what that will do to the actor that is already sharp. Don’t expect miracles, but might help to some degree

They JUST RECENTLY came out with camera technology that allows focusing in post. But it’s very new, still prototype, one particular camera with multiple lenses…so still out of reach.
