  • Premiere Pro CS6 only importing audio from C300 MXF files

Posted by Andy Taplin on December 2, 2015 at 12:35 pm

I’m only getting audio when importing MXF files from a C300 – but not always! I can import video and audio from a different project shot on the same camera so I’m confused about what’s gong on – codec/format etc is exactly the same – seems completely random which footage comes in as audio only and which comes in with both video and audio.

Another strange thing: sometimes the folder structure produced by the camera contains a .THM file and sometimes this is missing – this doesn’t seem related to my import problem.

Anybody have a solution to the import issue?

    Thanks

Are you importing with a CTRL+I (or CMD+I if you are using a Mac) command?

If so, try using Premiere’s Media Browser window instead and see if that solves it.

    System:
    Dell Precision T7600 (x2)
    Win 7 64-bit
    32GB RAM
Adobe CC 2014 (as of 7/2015)
    256GB SSD system drive
4 internal media drives RAID 5
Typically cutting short form from HD MP4 and P2 MXF.

    Thanks Jon

Initially, the clips that import as audio only show up as audio only in Media Browser too. I noticed that one of the projects that imported OK had the CLIPS001 folder in the top level of the directory (i.e. no CONTENTS folder) and voila! when I moved it up one level they imported correctly both in media browser and with CMD I. So it seems Premiere is fussy about the directory structures – still not consistent though as another set of clips were inside Contents and CLIPS001 folders and these import OK – still at least with some fiddling I can get them in now with video and audio – so thanks.

I also found a work around by bringing the MXF files into XDCAM Transfer and then exporting them out again – these imported fine – thanks Sony!
