I’m wondering how to animate a bunch of paths from Illustrator. I have a line drawing jpg that I converted to paths in Photoshop and then stroked in Illustrator.

Ended up with about 30 paths I’d like to animate in AE, but not sure my next step. When I import it just comes in as a straight file. Plus, it’s coming in blurry when I scale — I thought paths were vectors.

    Any thoughts? Thanks

issue 1) if all the paths are on separate layers in AI, you can import the file as a composition with layers intact. Check the Help, searching for import and layers. Note that they have to be on separate layers in Illustrator.

issue 2) you need to check the “continuous rasterization” button to keep things clean as you scale up. Check the help on working with Illustrator files.

AE always rasterizes, except maybe with SWF export. By this I mean that when you choose continuously rasterize, AE doesn’t just rasterize the AI vector image once at original size, it rasterizes it on every frame. So you don’t scale up an already-rasterized image, you scale up a vector image which is then rasterized after the scale-up, keeping it clean. It’s rasterized on every frame, after you do something to it. You see?

    Thanks —

Thought there might be something to the layers in ILL. Moving the paths there now.

Thanks for the tips about raster too.

    Off to work.
