July 6, 2006 at 8:50 pmOpen AE and in your fresh, empty file try and import your project into AE – NOT OPEN!!!!
File > Import > File (AEP’s are a file that can be imported like movies or images) just import it into the project and there will be a folder with everything in tact.
This has saved my bottom many a time. Hopefully it will help you.

July 6, 2006 at 8:57 pmAs soon as i put the mouse on import and let go it shuts down, if i drag anything into the compostion box as soon as it touches it, it shuts down. So i can’t even try to import my project file into AE.

July 6, 2006 at 9:09 pmdid you trash your preferences? I can’t remember exactly where they were kept in 6.0 but it’s worth a shot.

When starting After Effects, hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift and AE will come up with a box, asking you, whether you are sure that you want your preferences to be deleted. -

July 6, 2006 at 9:47 pmIt may be a problem with a corrupt effect or corrupt movie. The problem may only affect After Effect when the comp window opens and the frame starts rendering. Hold down SHIFT when opening a project to supress windows opening (except for the Project window). You can also engage Caps Lock to stop the comp window from rendering, so you can delete any corrupt effect from a layer.
Thanks to cybmotion.com for the wording. I’ve often held down shift to open projects that crash when trying to open them, because AE hangs up when looking for footage across my network.

July 6, 2006 at 10:08 pmIts more like i can’t import anything. Even a new file i right click go to import file and as soon as i let go of the mouse it shuts down, not error messages no warning sounds, just shuts down. It sucks big time

July 7, 2006 at 8:05 pmthis is a afterthought really, but something similar to this happened to me and it was a good thing I had enabled auto save…sometimes AE freaks out and auto save will le tyou go back a little bit and you can recover your work (with a little redoing)…sorry this happened, computers are not 100% infallible ( I have a brand bew Powermac, loaded to the gills, and it still crashes all the time…)
