Do many people combine 3D Max and AE? I don’t see much about the two combined in these forums. Do the 3D plugins such as Zaxwerks and Invigerator (sp) accomplish the same thing?

    Hi,

The reason is that the makers of 3DS are also the makers of Combustion. So of course they concentrated more on combining their own products. You can’t compare Invigorator to 3DS. Invigorator is an amazing plug-in that can do more then simple 3D text and flying logos but it is not a full 3D app like 3DS.
You could import 3DS objects into AE with the help of Invigorator though.

    Salut.

So, If I am adequate at 3DS, can I do most everything that the 3D plugins can do?

Yes, if you are a decent user of any major 3d package, you can do anything any of the 3d plug ins for AE do. The only issue is that having to do things in a 3d app takes a lot longer and the workflow is more convoluted. For instance, you could make some quick, nice 3d text in Zaxwerks or you could open up Maya, make some text curves, extrude and bevel them, set up your batch render, render it out, import the camera data into AE and then be done. If you don’t need the flexibility and added feature set that a big 3d program has, it can be easier and quicker to use plug ins like Zaxwekrs. However, if you do need some more advanced stuff and don’t mind a bit of a learning curve, look into a 3d program.

    Hi,

I agree with Colin as usual. It’s all about what you are after and speed.
What is it what you are after?

    Salut.

Thanks for the replies. I already have 3DS and don’t want to buy anything new if I don’t have to.
